iRiver SPINN MP4 Player

--Gadgts Collection-- Iriver_spinn_01

After CES, I saw a lot of coverage on iRiver’s new line of products,
but I was surprised that there was little on the new SPINN MP4 Player.
Perhaps this was due to the SPINN being under a glass cage at the
booth. Unfortunately, I do not know if they ever took the player out of
its display case at any time during the Expo.
Therefore, I wasn’t able to see the biggest selling point on what
iRiver calls its flagship model. I would have liked to see the
easy-to-use SPINN System Toggle Wheel, which I was told uses 3-D
technology for a truly unique interface.
The thing that iRiver wants to promote
with this new type of toggle wheel is that it has the “warmth of analog
technology”. Personally, I never saw a dial as having any warmth
whatsoever, but I think I see what they are trying to do. Too many
Portable Media Players have too many buttons and confusing scroller
wheels, so perhaps it was time to go back to the old-fashioned dial
method for ease of usage.
The features on the SPINN are many including a photo viewer, FM
tuner, recording capability, Flash games (including Flash 2.0), a text
viewer, and even a dictionary. The screen is a 3.2 inch WQVGA TFT-LCD
with 480×272 resolution. All this, and it is Bluetooth compatible.
The iRiver SPINN should be available sometime in the Spring, but a price has not been set as yet.

Cell phone watch makes you feel like Dick Tracy

--Gadgts Collection-- U201_flip_cell_watch
I remember way back in the day when Dick Tracy was my hero. Honestly as
I look back, I can’t really remember much about him except that he wore
yellow and had the coolest watch. The ability to talk to someone else
through a small device on your wrist just seemed so awesome. Well now
you can get a cell phone on your wrist, though it’s not nearly as cool
as you might think.

I don’t think that the design is necessarily all that bad for this
watch, but rather that the idea of having a phone on your wrist just
isn’t ever going to work that well. It all comes down to the fact that
any good phone will have decent sized keys and a nice little screen.
While they manage to get all the necessities in, this U200i phone looks
like it would be a bit bulky to carry on your wrist. Still, if you want
to feel like Dick Tracy, you can grab one for $234.99.

Sleep easier with the SleepMate

--Gadgts Collection-- Sleepmate
I’ve never figured out how people can go to sleep with the TV on.
Unless I’m completely exhausted when falling into bed, the only thing
the TV will do is keep me up even longer. I usually get interested in
whatever is on and just end up watching the whole thing. I also don’t
like complete silence, so I opt to keep a fan running in my bedroom. If
you’re looking for something a little more fancy to keep a little noise
going in your bedroom while keeping it fairly quiet, then check out the
SleepMate.

The SleepMate uses white noise which will help cancel out noises in
your bedroom. While it won’t likely won’t help with neighbors banging
on the wall, it should keep most quieter noises from reaching your
ears. You can pick one of these up for $49.95.

Breitling creates a truly waterproof watch

--Gadgts Collection-- Scaledseawolfchrono_041
When I was a kid I loved watches. For years I wanted one that was
both waterproof and had a button which would light up the face. I found
out later that there weren’t actually all that many situations where a
waterproof watch came in handy for me, but it was still cool
nonetheless. What I didn’t understand back then is that the watches
weren’t really waterproof, because if you attempted to engage the
chronograph, water would seep in. If you’re one that is concerned about
such an issue, you’ll be happy to hear that watchmaker Breitling has
solved this issue.

This Seawolf Chrono achieves true waterproof status by using
strategically placed magnets where your button are. When you press one
of the buttons, it will activate another magnet on the inside to create
the desired response. This prevents water from ever being allowed
inside the watch. I still don’t think that I’ll ever have much of a use
for something this fancy, but perhaps some of you divers out there
would enjoy it.

Track your power usage with the Cost Controller Power Strip

--Gadgts Collection-- Cost-controller
I know that I spend more on my electric bill every month than I
probably should. But with as many computers as I have running in my
house, it’s not really a surprise. I can easily pinpoint where the main
power drains are coming from, however, some people prefer to know
exactly how much power some of their larger equipment uses. Here’s a
cool power strip that will tell you how much energy each individual
device in an area uses.

The strip features a large LCD screen which will tell you in
kilowatt-hours how much energy a device uses over an hour, day, week,
month or year. You might be surprised at how much power some of your
bigger gadgets used. Of course, like all gadgets that help you save
energy, it’ll cost you. This Cost Controller Power Strip is going to
set you back a cool $100.

SIM Recovery Pro - Very useful, for a price

--Gadgts Collection-- Simrecoverypro_small
Almost everyone has a cell phone these days. Be you 8 or 80, it
seems like you need to carry a phone about as much as you need to
breathe. With that many phones around, there are plenty of gadgets
meant to help manage and take care of the data stored on them. This
little device seems rather useful because it has a couple of
much-needed functions that almost anyone can use.

When you change phones, the first thing you do (with most carriers)
is pop out the SIM card and put it into your new device. Unfortunately
sometimes your data doesn’t always want to show up properly in your new
phone. This little gadget plugs into a USB port on your computer and
will allow you to insert your SIM card and backup all of your data. Not
only that, but it can also retrieve deleted SMS and address book
entries. If you want to make sure that your kids can only call certain
numbers, this is the thing to use as well. Just tell it which numbers
it can call and you’re done.
The SIM Recovery Pro sounds really useful, however, there is one
major drawback. You’re going to have to shell out over $100 to get your
hands on one. Most people don’t even pay that much for their phone, let
alone an accessory for one.

Kiss Me lets you know if you need a mint

--Gadgts Collection-- Kissme3
Fresh breath is something you should have whenever you’re around
another person. I don’t really care how your breath smells when you’re
sitting at home by yourself, but the minute someone smells that foul
odor coming out of your mouth, you can bet they’ll put as much distance
between the two of you as possible. Usually if you brush your teeth and
use some mouthwash at the appropriate times, you’re good to go,
however, there are some times where you want to be extra sure. That’s
when you’ll turn to the Kiss Me.

The Kiss Me Personal Bad Breath Detector is simple, just breath on
it, and LEDs will light up to indicate just rank your breath is. Then
you’ll know to slip off for a quick brush of the teeth, or if you’re
out and about, at least pick up some mints or gum. I’m usually pretty
confident in the freshness of the air coming out of my mouth, plus I
really don’t need anything extra to carry around. However, if you spend
most of your days with very important persons (and perhaps eat lots of
onions) then you might want to consider spending the $19 on one.

Measure more accurately with the Scale Spoon

--Gadgts Collection-- Spoon-scale
I don’t do a lot of cooking in the kitchen, mostly because I don’t
have the patience and I’m just too picky of an eater. Most of the
things I like can be made by using the microwave or boiling water, so I
stick to what I like. However, if you do enjoy the culinary arts, you
might be interested in this handy little measuring device.

When you need to measure very small amounts, it can be rather
difficult at times. Thanks to this cool Spoon Scale you’ll be able to
weigh out your ingredients with ease. It is exact to within 1/10 of a
gram. It witches between grams and ounces, depending on your need and
has the keen ability to measure additional ingredients as you add them.
The Spoon Scale isn’t much larger than your average spoon, and will only set you back $37.

Cassette MP3 player works with your old tape deck

--Gadgts Collection-- Standalone_or_car_cassette_mp3_player
I honestly can’t say that I miss the cassette tape one bit. Sure, I
didn’t have a ton of time to really enjoy the format before CDs took
over, but anything that you have to rewind isn’t very much fun. Some
people still have fond memories of those little plastic cassettes, and
want to show off their love. This Cassette MP3 player is perfect for
such people.

All you need to do is pop in an SD card loaded with your favorite
tracks, and you’re ready to go. It may seem like just a novel case for
an otherwise boring MP3 player, however, it does have one trick hidden
up its sleeve. If your car still has an old tape deck in the dash, just
pop this little device in and it will play music just like any other
tape. $39.99 might be just a little expensive for something like this, but it’s still pretty cool.
